Lucky 13 Giveaway!

Since I don’t believe Friday the 13 is unlucky, I’m going to try to break the “spell” of the so-called unlucky Friday the 13th and make it a Lucky 13 day for one lucky person!

One week from today, on Friday March 13, I’m going to give away one hand-signed print of my “February Moon” illustration as featured in my recent art exhibit. Print size is 7 inches wide by 17.5 inches high, with a bit of white around it for me to sign.

What do you need to do to win? Answer me these questions three in the comments section on or before Midnight EST on Friday, March 13:
1) What was your luckiest Friday the 13th?
2) Do you think Friday the 13th is lucky, unlucky or neither?
3) What is your favorite Pantone Color?

The best answers, as judged solely by me, get the one and only prize. No purchase necessary. And no fair trying to bribe me with cookies. Unless they are chocolate chip. Sorry, I can only ship to US addresses.

More about this image: I needed one more image to complete my art exhibit for February with a them of “Love.” So after some thought, I dreamed up a bare tree with hearts starting to bloom under the silver light of the moon as an analogy to spring and warmth that would be coming soon. I worked a bit differently this time since I wanted to try out my new Faber-Castell Artist Pens. I used the brush nib and did some quick sketches in my trusty sketchbook. I then scanned it into Photoshop and then added the background textures, moon, and lighting.

  1. 1) What was your luckiest Friday the 13th?

i’m hoping it’s going to be this one. i have a friend from erie coming down to visit and i’ve been looking forward to seeing her for about a month!

    2) Do you think Friday the 13th is lucky, unlucky or neither?

let’s hope it’s lucky. but i kinda believe you create your own luck. kind of like a self fulfilling prophecy? the power of positive thinking is astounding.

    3) What is your favorite Pantone Color?

anybody who knows me knows that i’m in love with green. usually lime green, but also olive drag is fab!check out this mug:

    i hope i win!

  2. Nicholas – thanks for holding a give away for this awesome piece – beautiful. So much so that I’m hoping this coming Friday the 13th will be the luckiest one. All the others have been mediocre, uneventful (knock on…would bamboo work?) – that answers question 1.

Question 2…since I can’t recall anything amazingly bad or good happening, I remain neutral on calling it lucky or cursed. Producers of the movie, however, probably think it’s pretty damn lucky’ The characters in the movie…notsomuch.

Question 3…probably 3248 … it ranges but right now, I tend to like sage greens, aquas, cerulean blues and emeralds – reminds me of Seaside Florida which is so calming, natural and beautifully refreshing.

  3. 🙂

What is your luckiest Friday the 13th? Maybe this one? It will be my last day of work before a trip to Houston, so I do consider myself lucky 🙂

Do you think Friday the 13th is lucky, unlucky or neither? I think it’s cool that this is the 2nd month in a row that has had a Friday the 13th. So, I will count this one as lucky 🙂 That doesn’t happen very often.

What is your favorite Pantone Color? You know, I don’t have a favorite color, per say, but I do have favorite color combinations. I think that every color has potential to be beautiful or to be my “favorite” if in the right pairing or grouping with other colors!
A recent favorite combination is bright and tropical:
    PMS 396
    PMS 3135
    PMS 1788

  4. 1) What was your luckiest Friday the 13th?
All of them are equally lucky. If I would have had a bad Friday the 13th I think I would have remembered. Vice-versa 🙂

    2) Do you think Friday the 13th is lucky, unlucky or neither?
No day is unlucky in itself. According to folklorists, there is no written evidence for a “Friday the 13th” superstition before the 19th century. Superstition holds that it is a day of good or bad luck.Every day is what you make do of it. Carpe Diem!

    3) What is your favorite Pantone Color
Bright Marigold 15-1164 http://www.pashminaz.com/colors/bright-marigold.gif. It’s nicely complimented with lime.

  5. Hi Nick! Its Lobster from the forum (as if you couldn’t tell). Thanks for running this great contest. The print is absolutely lovely. I like how you uploaded the rough sketch as well… to show us how this started. Its a good reminder to us to always “sketch, sketch, sketch!”

Anyway, with regard to your questions…

    1) My “luckiest” Friday the 13th was way back in 1998. I was in college at the time. My birthday had been eight days earlier, but I hadn’t done much to celebrate because it coincided with a couple of other events. I went out to meet a friend for a drink, and as I walked back into my dorm, I was greeted by about 40 of my closest friends, family and associates who were standing in the lobby waiting to wish me a happy birthday. It was a great surprise birthday… one for the ages.

    2) I’m not at all superstitious. That said, I did get a $137 speeding ticket on the last Friday the 13th we had (last month) while en route to see the movie “Friday the 13th.” But in spite of it all, I firmly believe that its just a date/number, not unlike any other.

    3) I’d have to say PMS 167 (aka “burnt orange”). I love how this color sort of resides on the border between pure oranges and soft, autumnal browns. To me, this color represents the months of September, October and November, as well as the events which occur during those months (autumn fairs, visiting the pumpkin patch, Halloween, Thanksgiving). Just looking at it makes me think of the Fall.

Thanks again for running this contest.

  6. 1) What was your luckiest Friday the 13th?

Actually, it’s probably going to be this one. We celebrate 6 years of marriage!

    2) Do you think Friday the 13th is lucky, unlucky or neither?

    Meh, just another day.

    3) What is your favorite Pantone Color?

    Gotta be magenta.

  7. 1) What was your luckiest Friday the 13th?
I think my luckiest Friday the 13th was the one where I finally wasn’t persuaded/forced by friends to watch endless reruns of the famous scary movies.

    2) Do you think Friday the 13th is lucky, unlucky or neither?
I think it all depends on what you believe. If you are a scary movie buff and are very superstitious, you might consider Friday the 13th your unluckiest day of the year. If you are an average joe, you might consider it just an average day. And if you’re an optimist, every day is a lucky one!

    3) What is your favorite Pantone Color?
Hihg-risk Red, Pantone 18-1763. I think that as of late, this color really matches my personality & goals well.

  8. 1) What was your luckiest Friday the 13th?

I don’t believe in ‘luck’, nor any significance with Fri. 13th – so I guess all my Fridays are lucky because its the last day of the work week, and I get to celebrate with half price Mojitos!

    2) Do you think Friday the 13th is lucky, unlucky or neither?

It’s neither. Superstitions are so ‘1800s’. For better or for worse, time and unforseen occurances befall everyone…any day of the week/any day of the month.

    3) What is your favorite Pantone Color?

Right now, PMS 5415 – a lovely grey-blue. Very soothing, very relaxing, and also my current bathroom wall color!
